Outline of our trip

Dates Location Activity
February 18th - February 20th Delhi Spent the 19th touring major sites of the city including Lal Qila (Red Fort),Jama Masjid - largest Mosque in Delhi, Humayun's Tomb, Qutb Minar and were taken on a bicycle rickshaw ride through the Bazaar areas of old Delhi. In the evening we met up with Dr Raghu Chundawat who was going to be our expert guide for the Kanha leg of our trip.
February 20th - February 26th Kanha National Park Arose at 4.00am on the 20th to catch an early morning flight from Delhi to Jabalpur. We then had a 5 hour drive to Shergarh Lodge. We arrived in time to go on a game drive in the early evening - no tigers but some heavy unexpected rain showers!

Except for an afternoon trip to the local town of Garhi's weekly market our days at Kanha were based on two games drives; one of about 5 hours starting at 6 am and a later one of 3 hours starting at 3pm. After the first day's rain the weather was blue skies all the way. This meant cold starts to the day ending with hot sunshine!

We had good tiger sightings in Kanha with 12 animals in all with, according to our guides, 9 different individuals.
February 26th - March 2nd Bandhavgarh National Park We left Shergarh early in the morning and took the cross country route to Bandhavgarh encountering many cows, potholes and people on the way.

With the exception of a visit to a local village, our days at Bandhavgarh were similar to that at Kanha; morning and afternoon game drives.

One of the drives had a difference in that it was partially on foot up to the Bandhavgarh Fort. Accompanied by a local artist/guide, Kay, we were shown around the Fort, its temple and monuments and viewpoints where we gained superb views over the terrain.

Tiger sightings also good in Bandhavgarh with 4 sightings and 3 individuals with the best sighting of all on our very last drive when we discovered B2, the dominant 14 year old male of the area. Through the skill of our guides we managed to spend at least 10 minutes by ourselves with him before being joined by other jeeps. Many photos taken!!
March 2nd - March 3rd Delhi Again we started our trip back early in the morning travelling to Khajuraho to catch a flight back to Delhi. Decided to treat ourselves to real luxury to get some rest for the flight home by staying at the Claridges Hotel. Worth every penny!
